Edith Frances Bickers Death Certificate

Jasper's son Willie Willhite died in Cincinnati, Ohio on 16 Apr 1936 at the age of 43 years 11 months 14 days (born 29 Apr 1892). He was married to a lady named Mildred, and was working as a lockman.

Waller and Amanda Willhite had a daughter they named Eliza Willhite who appears in the 1970 census, age 4. She does not appear in the 1880 census, leading us to conclude that she may have died young.

Their next child, Perry Samuel Willhite, was born 1 Jan 1868 and died 14 Jun 1949 according to his death certificate.

According to her death certificate, Waller's daughter Florence Willhite was born 27 Dec 1872 in Henry County KY, and died 23 Sep 1953 in Louisville KY. The certificate gave her name as Mrs. Florence Nelson, and the names of her parents as Walter Willhite and Amanda Willhite.

Florence Nelson Death Certificate

We find Florence in the 1910 census with her husband, John Nelson, and three daughters: Maude, Irita, and Rose.

1910 Federal Census: Kentucky, Jefferson County, Louisville Ward 2, page 82A
household 132/167 - 934 East Main Street

By 1920, Florence is married to Thomas R. Sale. It is unclear what became of John Nelson. Thomas Sale had a daughter named Jessie, and Florence had added a son named Walter. Thomas' mother is with them as well.

1920 Federal Census: Kentucky, Jefferson County, Louisville Ward 2, pages 67A-B
household 107/123
Sale, Thomas R. - head, M W 38 md, born KY, parents born KY, cutter in woolen mill

By 1930 Florence was living with her daughter Rose and Rose's husband, Morgan Bagby. Florence had retaken the name Nelson, and we do not have any idea what had become of Mr. Sale.

1930 Federal Census: Kentucky, Jefferson County, Louisville, District 65, page 27A

The 1930 census also shows Florence's daughter Irita as married to John H. Jones, and with two children: Thomas and Frances. We make this connection because of four factors: (1) Mrs. J. H. Jones is the informant on Florence's death certificate; (2) Her unusual given name of Irita; (3) Irita's age is consistent with her age in the 1920 census; and (4) Irita named her daughter Frances, apparently after her mother.

1930 Federal Census: Kentucky, Jefferson County, District 3, page 62A
household 1100/1138 - Buckhart Lane

Additional information on Thomas R. Sale was collected in this research. We learned that Thomas Roy Sale married Nettie Renfro on 10 Oct 1907 in Louisville KY. Then we find them living with his mother in 1910.

1910 Federal Census: Kentucky, Jefferson County, Louisville Ward 12, page 219A
household 2/2 - 2812 Portland Ave
Randall, Francis A. - head, F W 58, married 3 times, 1 child, born OH, parents born OH, retail merchant (dry goods)
Sale, Thomas R. - son, M W 27, married once for 3 years, born KY, father born KY, mother born OH, salesman (dry goods)
Sale, Nettie - daughter-in-law, F W 22, married once for 3 years, no children, born KY, parents born KY
Sale, Jessie E. - granddaughter (adopted?), F W 1 4/12, born KY, parents born unknown

The fact that Nettie Sale is listed with no children suggests that Jessie E. Sale was adopted. The census image is difficult to read, but the word adopted may be written above the word granddaughter.

It's not clear what became of Nettie Sale, but by the time of his WWI registration (12 Sep 1918), Thomas listed Francis Ann Randell as his closest kin.

According to her death certificate, Thomas Roy Sale's mother, Frances was a daughter of Joseph and Rachael Watson. Frances was born 27 Jun 1851 in Ohio. She died 19 May 1925 in Jefferson County KY. She is identifed with her parents in the 1870 census, and with her husband Thomas Sale in the 1880 census, both shown below.

1870 Federal Census: Kentucky, Jefferson County, Lower Ponds, page 32
household 239/224

Waller's last child was William (or Willie) Willhite. According to Willie's death certificate, he was born 2 Jul 1877 in Henry County KY, and died 14 May 1918 in Shelby County KY.
