Elizabeth C. Bowles was the second daughter of John and Celia (Sally) Bowles. She was born in Barren County KY on 7 Aug 1825. On 15 Aug 1848 she married Thomas Shockley. Thomas Jefferson Shockley was born 17 Jan 1820 to Lemuel and Elizabeth (Oldham) Shockley according to the Oldham On-Line Database maintained by Jan Oldham on Rootsweb.
In 1850, Thomas and Elizabeth were living next door to her father according to the census. They continued to live in Metcalfe County until their deaths.
Thomas and Elizabeth sold 28 acres on Falling Timber Creek in what was then Barren County to her brother, Elzy, on 25 Oct 1852.
They had one child, a son named Thomas B. Shockley who was born 20 Sep 1861. He died on 28 Mar 1880 at the age of 18.
Elizabeth died on 27 Jun 1896. Thomas lived until 28 Aug 1897. They are buried with their son in the New Liberty Cemetery located on Highway 1413, one mile north of U.S. 68/80 in Metcalfe County.
