State of Missouri - Divorces, Name changes, Legalizations of Marriages, Petitions for Relief.
Abstracted from the "Laws of the State of Missouri passed at the session of the Fifteenth General Assembly; 25 Dec 1848 through 12 Mar 1849. Many divorces granted at the state level showing names of parties, often maiden names of the wife and county of residence. Under Legalizations of Marriages, State granting a legal state to individuals who were not legally married and thus providing for children to inherit. Name changes are due to marriage, adoptions and some who just wanted a different name. Petitions for relief includes the normal relief requested for sheriffs, county clerks, etc. when bond was not met, for the assistance of veterans who were elderly or disabled, for covering costs of capturing murderers and even for one man whose wife had triplets and needed help!
